GENERAL
As a site administrator, you can add Crow Canyon List Search web part to a Page and then determine the settings for it, such as what lists can be searched, what the default list is, and what the default mode for search is. As a user, you simply use List Search as explained here.
ADDING LIST SEARCH TO A PAGE
The Crow Canyon List Search web part can be added to any Page in SharePoint.

Edit the Page and then choose “Add a Web Part” while on the Page or go to the Insert tab on the Ribbon and choose “Web Part”.
SHAREPOINT 2013
Edit the Page, then go to the Insert tab on the Ribbon and choose “Web Part”.

The List Search web part should be available under the Crow Canyon section. Simply add that to the appropriate area of a Page.
CONFIGURING LIST SEARCH

Once the Crow Canyon List Search web part is added to a Page, it can be configured using “Edit Web Part”. When the Page is in Edit Mode, the web part has a drop arrow at the far right with the option to “Edit Web Part”.
When that is chosen, a configuration panel appears on the right side of the screen. Use this panel as follows:
•Select the Site first. That will change the display to show the lists in that Site.
•Select "Restricted Mode" or "Normal Mode"
Restricted Mode: searches on one designated field only in the list |
Normal Mode: searches on multiple text and other fields in the list. Can be used as Simple Search or Advanced Search |
For Restricted Mode:
Select one list in the Site. |
Select a view on that list. |
Select the field (column) that will be searched |
Select the Operator, either Eq (equals) or Contains |
Enter in a label that will appear in front on the search box. |
For Normal Mode:
Choose one or more lists for searching. The lists chosen are the ones that will be in the drop list at the left side of List Search. |
•Choose options
Default List: the one that first shows in the drop list in List Search
Default View: the view that is used in the search results
Default Search Mode: either Simple or Advanced
Enable edit option: if checked, items in the search results can be opened for editing
•In the Appearance section, the Title for the web part can be set.
